Low Power Outstation
Oriel's low power outstation is designed for small solar panel and/or mini-windmill power. The unit has an internal charge pump for generating it's own 24 volt supply for ultrasonic sensors (or any other analog sensor) giving reliable and confident readings.
It usually communicates to the AWAX master station over radio or GSM/GPRS modem and generally there is no need for a repeater station. It conserves power by turning off all non essential devices and sleeping until the next measurement time (power consumption whilst asleep is less than 1uA, yet it can still record rainfall data in this state!).
The unit's I/O is very flexible so you can have as many analog and/or digital inputs as required; additionally the unit can talk to devices over an RS232 or RS485 communications link. When it is time to communicate with the master station, the unit uploads all it's stored values from it's memory.
